Alachua County & O‑Town Compost Launch Countywide Food Waste Drop‑Off Program

Alachua County residents now have a new, convenient way to keep food waste out of the landfill. Beginning January 3, 2026, and continuing through December 31, 2026, O‑Town Compost, through a Circular Economy Grant, has partnered with Alachua County to offer free food waste drop‑off at the County’s five Rural Collection Centers.

This initiative expands access to composting across the region and strengthens our shared commitment to building a circular, climate‑smart local economy. Every bucket of food scraps dropped off will be transformed into nutrient‑rich compost that supports farmers, gardeners, landscapers, and community growers throughout North Central Florida.

Where to Drop Off Your Food Waste

Residents can bring their food scraps to any of the following Rural Collection Centers:

  • Alachua/High Springs – 16929 NW US Hwy 441

  • Archer – 19401 SW Archer Rd.

  • Fairbanks – 9920 NE Waldo Rd.

  • North Central – 10714 N State Rd. 121

  • Phifer – 11700 SE Hawthorne Rd.

Hours of Operation

All Rural Collection Centers are open:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
    7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

The Alachua/High Springs location offers additional hours:

Why This Matters

Food waste makes up a significant portion of what ends up in landfills. By expanding access to composting, Alachua County and O‑Town Compost are:

  • Reducing methane emissions

  • Supporting local soil health

  • Creating a valuable resource for growers

  • Advancing a more resilient, circular economy

This program makes it easier than ever for residents to take meaningful climate action, one drop‑off at a time.
